Industrial Oven Mitts

As you reach into a hot oven, you'll curse yourself constantly if you're not wearing a pair of industrial oven mitts. The temperatures inside of a hot oven can exceed 400 degrees, so if you don't have some sort of protection on your hands, you could be looking at third degree burns, blisters and hospitalization. To avoid all of this, purchasing oven mitts is an easy solution.

Buying Industrial Oven Mitts

An industrial oven mitt is going to be different than an oven glove in that there is room for the thumb and then the other four fingers together. This is the most common type of protection found for removing product from the ovens because you will have the same size for a small hand or a large hand. You will want to consider the following when buying an industrial oven mitt:

  • Length
  • Construction Material
  • Temperature Capability

The length of the glove will vary. Some will cover just past the wrist while others will extend up the entire arm, almost to the shoulder. Depending upon how deep your oven is, you'll want to ensure that the entire portion of the arm that will enter the hot oven is covered. Otherwise, it could still cause a burn on the arm as opposed to the hand.

The construction material and temperature capability work hand in hand. Often a cotton blend will only go up to 300 degrees or so, which isn't going to be enough for hot ovens. It's fine for a sandwich shop and you're taking melted sandwiches out of a conveyor. Otherwise, though, you'll want to consider a heavy cotton terry blend or silicone, that are often designed to go up to 500 degrees, which means you're covered no matter what you're taking out of the oven.

When you buy industrial oven mitts, you can buy them virtually anywhere. Look online, in catalogs, or in a retail store, just pay attention to how hot they can get so that you protect yourself and your employees.

Protecting a Business with Industrial Oven Mitts

Companies are constantly talking about safety. A good safety program starts with PPE or personal protective equipment. Industrial oven mitts are included in this and are a very affordable product to have on hand for employees. PPE will prevent accidents which ultimately lead to costly worker's compensation claims and time lost on the job. If your top baker or chef gets burnt, think about how costly that would be to your business. It's worth the small investment.

When a company offers safety supplies for their employees, employees have a higher level of job satisfaction. They know that their company cares about them because products, like industrial oven mitts, are offered to reduce injuries.

Industrial oven mitts are not very expensive. A pair of mitts can cost anywhere from ten dollars to somewhere right around a hundred dollars. They can be made of cotton, a polyester blend or even silicone. A company who uses their oven a lot will need to replace the oven mitts more frequently than others to avoid wearing the oven mitts down. The more wear that a glove has, the more chances of a person burning themselves.
